"my front doorstep"

i saw the twinkle
    in your eye
at least i thought
    i did

but small talk did not suffice
from long walk
to thought twice

wish you'd stayed longer
locked in silent, awkward,
blissful interactions

my small talk
aims to convince
your long walk
granted long since

wish you'd stayed longer
contented at least
thought pondered

for fonder i'd become
with appearance less seldom
an added sum:
two from ones

i had succumbed

    but months have passed
    from some poems
    hung above a fortress
    your walls & mine
    can-not align
    blame space & time
    or zodiac signs.

(but we've come here)

    to resign
