"dark trees"
uninvited fog clouds this field where we lay
drums pound an unfamiliar song
i gasp a final breath and prepare to dive
falling, it seems like eternity
all wrapped up in calendar squares
tiles catch me, solid embrace warms
(a) chalk outline, slightly pinker
contorted body shudders under a new sense
to stand is to be lost forever
(in a sea of faces, i no longer try
for a glimpsing smile, a misplaced glance)
laying in a planted field, rows of pines
await their demise, grown for product
my seed is here to serve anyone else
saws crumble my bones, i cling
to a day hazed by time
yellowing pages of memory
forged, not as steel, only stolen
i'm still falling, aching for cement
a break, a sensation, sprouting leaves
alone. oozing from a park bench
i lean back & wait for stars.
